Grants & Research at Rider University

Rider University values collaboration and partnership with a variety of external constituents to further the goals and objectives of the Rider faculty and to enhance students’ educational experiences.  To this end, the University has officers in place to act as resources and liaisons as faculty and administrators pursue grants from corporations, foundations and government sources.  

Rider Community members interested in pursuing external support for institutional initiatives will find it helpful to consider several important factors:

Before actively pursuing or applying for a grant:

  • Contact a Grants Officer.  Each of the offices listed below manages grants on behalf of the entire university.  Not only can these individuals provide guidance, they also act as relationship managers and maintain records on various organizations’ giving history with the University and ensure only one proposal is submitted at any one time to the same funding organization.
     
  • Review Grant Procedures to ensure you are following University policies.  
     
  • Plan enough time for institutional approvals, budgetary requirements and other processes in advance of the grant deadline.
     
  • Review additional Information and Resources or attend a Rider-sponsored grant workshop

Cathlene has extensive experience in the preparation of a wide range of grants primarily to county, state and federal government agencies.  In her role as the Associate Director for Grants Development & Science Literacy, Cathlene assists faculty to identify appropriate funding sources, and provides instruction on how to prepare thoughtful proposals and understand the approval and submission process.

Denise Pinney
Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, University Advancement

Denise works in conjunction with deans, administrators and faculty to establish relationships with corporations and foundations and to seek external support for a variety of University initiatives.  Denise assists with the preparation of corporate and foundation grants and is available to assist faculty in determining whether such funds are available for particular projects.  Read more on Corporate and Foundation Relations at Rider University.

Mike is extensively involved in both pre-award and post-award grant activities.  Prior to the submission of all government grants and select private grants, Mike reviews proposed budgets and project descriptions to ensure the budget is appropriate, realistic, and consistent with University policies.  Thereafter, any governmental grants must be submitted via Mike’s office.   If a grant is awarded, Mike sets up the grant account and will rely upon involved faculty, deans, or other administrators to ensure grant expenses are charged back to the grant account.
