Westminster Conservatory Youth Chorale Performs Haydn's Creation April 30
The Westminster Conservatory Youth Chorale will present Franz Joseph Haydn’s The Creation, an oratorio in three parts, on Sunday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on the Westminster Choir College of Rider University campus in Princeton. Conducted by Frank Abrahams and accompanied by Kenneth Phillips, the ensemble will be joined by soloists Danielle Sinclair, Patrick Schmidt, Timothy Urban, Julie Stevens, and Oren Margolis.
Composed of high school students selected by audition, the chorale is a prestigious honors choir that has performed with the Westminster Community Orchestra and the Greater Princeton Youth Symphony, as well as in Brazil.
A native of Philadelphia, Frank Abrahams holds degrees from Temple University and New England Conservatory. He is professor of music education and chair of Westminster’s music education department, as well as founder and conductor of the Westminster Music Theater Workshop for high school students. Aside from his dedication to music education, he also enjoys a career as a pianist and a choral conductor in music theater.
First performed on April 29, 1798, The Creation was an immediate sensation. Presented in three parts, the work recounts the creation of the Universe through fervent feeling and meaningful expression. Special attention is paid to the creation of light and the first morning, mountains, water, sun, animals, and dawn, as each is represented by different musical instruments.
Westminster Choir College is located at Hamilton Avenue and Walnut Lane in Princeton. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students/seniors. For tickets call the box office at (609) 921-2663.
