Westminster Jubilee Singers Perform At Lincoln Center March 1
The Westminster Jubilee Singers and conductor J. Donald Dumpson will perform for the first time at Lincoln Center in New York on Wednesday, March 1 at 8 p.m.
The performance is part of a special concert presented in conjunction with the American Choral Directors Association. Their program will include such traditional spirituals as Nathaniel Dett’s “I’ll Never Turn Back No More” and contemporary works, including Bill Withers’ “Grandma’s Hands.” They will be joined by ensembles from Houghton College, Temple University, and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.
The Westminster Jubilee Singers are known for their exciting performances of music from the African-American tradition. In December they performed with the legendary Sweet Honey in the Rock, the Grammy Award-winning African American female a cappella ensemble, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.
“This has been an exciting 10th-anniversary year for the Westminster Jubilee Singers,” says Westminster Director and Dean Robert Annis. “Their performance at Alice Tully Hall will certainly be an exciting and inspiring evening.”
Tickets for this concert are $15. To order call CenterCharge at 212-721-6500 or go to the Lincoln Center Web site.
