Westminster Organ Students Will Present Recitals in Princeton

Organ students at Westminster Choir College of Rider will present two recitals in Princeton in November and December.  The public is invited to attend both a no charge.  Each recital will be approximately one hour long.

The first recital will be Monday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Chapel at Princeton Theological Seminary.  This is the final recital in the graduate course in North German organ literature, which was led by Andrew Henderson.  It will be a lecture-recital format focusing on chorale-based works by North Gernman composers.  The repertoire will be 

Georg Bohm:  Vater Unser
 
Heinrich Scheidemann: Motet Intabulation, Magnificat 8 Toni (Chant Fantasia)
 
Matthias Weckmann: Nun freut euch 
 
Dietrich Buxtehude: Nun freut euch, Nun bitten wir

The second recital will be presented Monday, December 5 at 7 p.m. in the Princeton University Chapel.  It will feature organ students performing the nine movements of Olivier Messiaen’s La Nativité du Seigneur.  The evening will begin with a discussion lof the work ed by organ faculty member Ken Cowan.  Widely-regarded as Messiaen’s first large-scale work for organ, this nine-movement cycle surrounds themes of the birth of Christ. 

The students who will perform are Joseph Arndt, Charles Higgs, Uko Unehara, Brandon Dumas, Kevin O'Malia, Esther Lee, Kirk Adsett, Paul Reese, and Weil Sawyer.
