Steps Through Time Concert Will Benefit Breast Cancer Foundation - October 9

Westminster Conservatory will present a concert to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation New Jersey Race for the Cure® on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on the campus of Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton.

All of the performers are Conservatory faculty members: Joy Bechtler and Nancy Froysland Hoerl, soprano; Linda Mindlin, mezzo-soprano; Jill Crawford, flute; Kenneth Ellison, clarinet; Flora Newberry, trumpet; Carol Redfield Vizzini, cello; and Esma Pasic-Filipovic, Miriam Eley, Carmen Mateiescu and Patricia Tupta Landy, piano.

Appropriately titled “Steps Through Time,” the concert emphasizes the relationship between music and dance.  Many of the musical selections to be performed are dance forms – sarabande, gigue, tarantella, polka, and landler – which were chosen to reflect figurative movement toward the Race for the Cure, a 5K run hosted by the Breast Cancer Resource Center of the YWCA Princeton, which will take place on Sunday October 17th.

The program will also emphasize the theme of youth, represented by Ravel’s  Mother Goose Suite selections, Trois Chansons and Poem de L’enfant et sa mere.  The artists will perform works by Corelli, Durante, Brahms, Saint-Saëns, Fauré, Ravel, Poulenc, and Villa-Lobos, as well as the world premieres of songs by Laurie Altman and Carmen Mateiescu.

“The Westminster Conservatory community is composed of caring, talented, imaginative and concerned faculty and staff,” says Conservatory Executive Director Scott Hoerl.  “We are pleased to be able to use our music making to support this worthy cause.”

Westminster Conservatory is the community music school of Westminster Choir College of Rider University.  Westminster is located at Hamilton Avenue and Walnut Lane in Princeton.  Tickets for this concert are $10 for everyone.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the Westminster box office weekdays between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 609-921-2663 or at the door.
