Steps Through Time Concert Will Benefit Breast Cancer Foundation - October 9
Westminster Conservatory will present a concert to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation New Jersey Race for the Cure® on
All of the performers are Conservatory faculty members: Joy Bechtler and Nancy Froysland Hoerl, soprano; Linda Mindlin, mezzo-soprano; Jill Crawford, flute; Kenneth Ellison, clarinet; Flora Newberry, trumpet; Carol Redfield Vizzini, cello; and Esma Pasic-Filipovic, Miriam Eley, Carmen Mateiescu and Patricia Tupta Landy, piano.
Appropriately titled “Steps Through Time,” the concert emphasizes the relationship between music and dance. Many of the musical selections to be performed are dance forms – sarabande, gigue, tarantella, polka, and landler – which were chosen to reflect figurative movement toward the Race for the Cure, a 5K run hosted by the
The program will also emphasize the theme of youth, represented by Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite selections, Trois Chansons and Poem de L’enfant et sa mere. The artists will perform works by Corelli, Durante, Brahms, Saint-Saëns, Fauré, Ravel, Poulenc, and Villa-Lobos, as well as the world premieres of songs by Laurie Altman and Carmen Mateiescu.
