Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra Performs Music of Bach, Stravinsky Schubert and Rossini on February 10

The Kaleidoscope Chamber Series of Westminster Conservatory will present the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra in a program of music by Bach, Stravinsky, Schubert and Rossini on Sunday, February 10 at 3:00 p.m.  The concert will take place in Gill Memorial Chapel on the Lawrenceville campus of Rider University. 

The program Sunday includes the Brandenburg Concerto no. 1 in F, BWV 1046 by J.S. Bach; Suite no. 1 for small orchestra by Igor Stravinsky; Introduction, Theme, and Variations in Eb for clarinet and orchestra by Gioachino Rossini; and Symphony no. 5 in Bb Major, D. 485 by Franz Peter Schubert.  The clarinet soloist for the Rossini will be Kenneth Ellison.  The Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra is conducted by Ruth Ochs.

Conductor Ruth Ochs was awarded the Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting by the University of Texas and a Bachelor of Arts in music, magna cum laude, from Harvard University.  She also studied several summers at the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors in Hancock, Maine, and was a Fulbright Scholar to Germany.  She is at present a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in musicology at Princeton University.  In Texas she conducted the University of Texas String Project and the Austin Philharmonic.  In addition to conducting the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Ms. Ochs conducts the Westminster Community Orchestra and the Princeton University Sinfonia.

Clarinetist Kenneth Ellison has performed with many musical organizations, including the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, the Riverside Sinfonia and the Greenville Symphony, under such conductors as Andrea Quinn, John Rutter, Frederick Fennell and Rossen Milanov, and in venues including Avery Fisher Hall, Merkin Hall, NJPAC and the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C.  He is a member of the Princeton Symphony woodwind trio for the BRAVO! program, the New Jersey Arts Collective and Tripleplay Winds.  Mr. Ellison is a candidate in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at Rutgers University.  He has degrees in music from Arizona State University and Furman University.  At Westminster Conservatory, Mr. Ellison teaches clarinet and saxophone.

The Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra is made up of Westminster Conservatory faculty members, adult amateurs from the Westminster Community Orchestra, and advanced students from Westminster Conservatory.

Westminster Conservatory is the community music school of Westminster Choir College of Rider University.  Gill Memorial Chapel is located at Rider University, 2083 Lawrence Road in Lawrenceville.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.  They can be purchased by calling the Westminster box office weekdays between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 609-921-2663, or at the door.  To receive Westminster's 2007-2008 season catalog, call the box office.
