Westminster Conservatory Community Ensembles Announce Auditions
Westminster Conservatory’s community ensembles are now scheduling auditions for their 2007-2008 season.
Auditions for the Westminster Community Chorus, which is composed of adult singers, will be held Tuesday August 28 and Tuesday September 4 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Westminster Conservatory’s main branch in Princeton. Prior choral experience is not required to audition; singers should bring one prepared song in any style to sing for the audition. An accompanist will be provided. Advanced singers may also be considered for the Westminster Community Chamber Choir if they are interested.
Conducted by Devin Mariman, The Westminster Community Chorus rehearses on Tuesday from 7:30-9:30 p.m. beginning September 11 in Bristol Chapel on the campus of Westminster campus in Princeton. Repertoire for the upcoming season includes Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Russian music for male chorus, and Haydn's "Lord Nelson" Mass, which will be performed with orchestra.
The Westminster Conservatory Youth Chorale, an honors ensemble for students in grades 9 through 12, will hold auditions on Saturday September 8 and Saturday September 15. Singers should bring one prepared song in any style to sing for the audition, and an accompanist will be provided.
Conducted by Frank Abrahams, head of the music education department at Westminster Choir College, the ensemble rehearses on the Westminster campus each Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Repertoire for the upcoming season includes Gloria by Francis Poulenc, traditional music for Hanukah, and Rachmaninoff’s Three Russian Folksongs performed with the Westminster Community Orchestra.
The Westminster Community Orchestra has openings in its violin and viola sections. Conducted by Ruth Ochs, the orchestra will perform four times this year. Programs will include Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, Britten’s Saint Nicolas, Barber’s Overture to The School for Scandal, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 and selections from Broadway classics Kiss Me Kate, My Fair Lady, West Side Story.
