Application Process

File an application together with a non-refundable $50 application fee. The fee is payable in U.S. funds only by personal check or money order. Do not send cash. Applications received without an application fee will not be processed.

  1. Complete an audition or submit an audition tape with the application. Please note: auditions will not be scheduled and tapes will not be evaluated unless Westminster has received the application and fee. It is encouraged that applicants send in all required documents before auditioning.  Click here for audition dates and requirements.
  2. Submit a repertoire list. All applicants must submit a current and complete list of works performed.
  3. Submit two reference letters. We would like a reference from your current or most recent music teacher. The remaining reference(s) can be of your choosing. Ask your teachers to mail the recommendations directly to the Admissions Office.

Decisions for All Applicants

The Admissions Committee will evaluate applications and notify applicants of the admission decision as soon as the applicant’s file is complete.

Enrollment

Accepted applicants must confirm their intention to enroll by returning the non-refundable deposit by the due date indicated in the Admissions Decision Form.

Filing Instructions

It is very important to make copies of all parts of your personal application for your records. Please note that audio and videotapes sent to Westminster will not be returned. Mail the originals with the application fee to:

Graduate Applicants

In addition to the four items for all applicants, graduate applicants must submit:

  1. Official college transcripts. Transcripts must be forwarded directly from the institution(s) where undergraduate work was completed.
  2. Personal statement. Each graduate applicant is asked to write a substantial essay of 500 words. See application for topic guidelines.
  3. Current resume.

To apply for a Graduate Assistantship you must complete the Graduate Assistantship Application.


Summer Graduate Programs

Master of Voice Pedagogy

  1. Academic transcripts from all previous college and/or conservatory study.
  2. Professional resume.
  3. Audio recording demonstrating singing ability (need not be current).
  4. Two letters of recommendation speaking to singing and/or teaching ability.
  5. A candidate's statement of intent, outlining professional goals and expectations for Westminster's MVP program.
  6. A sample of academic/professional writing, new or previously composed (e.g., research paper completed for previous academic work, published or submitted article, an original review of an article from the Journal of Voice or Journal of Singing or a brief, original paper on a topic, such as breathing, phonation, registration or voice literature).
  7. Candidates with significant prior teaching experience may include printed programs, audio recordings, reviews or letters of support from former or current students (optional).
  8. Admissions interview (under extraordinary circumstances this may be replaced by a telephone conference call).
  9. Completed admissions application.

Master of Music Education

  1. Completed admissions application.
  2. Transcripts from past colleges, universities and/or conservatories.
  3. Two recommendation letters.
  4. Professional resume.
  5. Videotape of conducting or classroom teaching (approximately forty minutes and should not be a concert or performance).
  6. Written proposal for the "focus track" of study (Focus Track: Choral Music, Orff Certification, Kodaly Certification, Music Technology, Kindermusik or New Jersey Teacher Certificate).
  7. Submission of a portfolio.
  8. Personal interview.
