General Emphasis Program Requirements

Students will choose an Arts Focus track or an Entrepreneurship Focus track.  See requirements below.

Arts Administration with a General Emphasis (124 semester hours)
Professional Studies Arts Administration Major Area

*Electives include courses such as Issues in Event Planning, Writing for the Media, The American Identity in the Arts, Intro to Human Resource Management, Marketing Principles, Publicity Methods in Organizations

Option 1: Arts Focus Track

20 Credits
  • Courses selected in two or more of the fine and performing arts disciplines.  Specific courses in performance or production (e.g., Applied Music, Theater Production) may require an audition.  Students may not count more than four (4) performance or production credits in any discipline, and no more than a total of ten (10) credits in all disciplines in this track.  Performance and production courses include Studio Art, Dance (other than history), applied lessons, ensembles, and Theater or Music Theater productions.
 

Option 2:  Entrepreneurship Track

20 Credits
  • Introduction to Entrepreneurship for the Arts
  • Fundamentals of Management
  • Small Business Management
  • New Venture Planning
  • 2 Business Electives (choose from Family Business, Student Venture Experience, Entrepreneurial Internship, Business Graphics, Entrepreneurial Marketing)
  • 1 Non-Business Elective

Electives

Important Notes:

  1. Satisfactory completion of AR121 or CBA110 and of all English Composition requirements of a student’s college is a prerequisite for AR202 and AR203.
  2. A student who chooses to take both AR121 and CBA110 may count the credits for the second course toward electives in this minor.
  3. A student who chooses to take two of the three writing courses may count the second course toward electives in this minor.
  4. An internship must be undertaken in an arts organization venue in order to count toward this minor. While it may be arranged for three or more credits, a maximum of three internship credits may be counted toward electives.
