Ms. Surkin is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Voice at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey; the sole voice instructor at the Lighthouse Music School International (for the visually impaired); and a Vocal Technique instructor for classes at CAP21 in New York City. She has previously taught singing at Wagner College in Staten Island, Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, the Henry Street Settlement and the Turtle Bay Music School in New York City.

She is a member of the New York Singing Teachers' Association (NYSTA) and the National Association of Singing Teachers. For NYSTA, Ms. Surkin was in the first graduating class of the Core of Knowledge Program. There she studied with master professionals in the areas of Pedagogy, Vocal Health, Anatomy, Acoustical Physics and Repertoire. She just completed an internship as a vocology trainee with Dr. Linda Carroll, Speech Pathologist and Dr. Peak Woo, world-renowned otolaryngologist and Director of Clinical Services of the Eugen Grabscheid, M.D. Voice Center, a clinical and research center for voice disorders at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center New York City. She was also a vocology trainee with the world-renowned Dr. Anat Keidar at the Vox Humana Voice Laboratory Head and Neck Center for Voice and Swallowing Disorders (affiliated with Roosevelt Hospital) where she observed both speech and vocal pathologies.

Ms. Surkin has performed the alto solos in over 30 major oratorios with orchestra in the tri-state area, including two performances of Messiah in Carnegie Hall as well as the Kennedy Center. Some of these include performances of all of the great Bach works including the St. John Passion, St. Matthew PassionMagnificat Mass in B Minor, Christmas Oratorio and several cantatas. She has also performed Choral Fantasy, Mass in C and Symphony No. 9 of Beethoven; the Brahms Alto Rhapsody; Handel's Judas Maccabeus; Mass in B Minor and Mass in Time of War of Haydn; King David by Honegger; Elijah; Mozart's Coronation Mass, Requiem, and Vesperae solennes dei Confessore; Stabat Mater and  Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini; the Verdi Requiem and the Vivaldi Gloria.

Her operatic repertoire is quite extensive as well, performing in regional companies as well as locally everything from Baroque to Contemporary operas. Recently, she had the pleasure of performing the leading role of Fanny in Elie Wiesenthal's Angel Levine and the First Operator in the world premiere of Sorry, Wrong Number by Jack Beeson, with the Center for Contemporary Opera.

Her CD,  "Uptown, Downtown" on the Studio 21 label features blues and jazz inspired songs written by contemporary American composers William Bolcom, John Musto, Jack Gottlieb and Lou Rodgers.

Ms. Surkin holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Temple University, a Master of Arts in music from New York University, and a certificate in music from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
