Norma Newton has emerged as one of the leading teachers of singing in the world.  Her students can be found on the rosters of major opera houses everywhere.  Her own career began at the New York City Opera and spanned two decades.  She was a professor at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and had a ten-year affiliation with the Houston Opera Studio as an artist-teacher of singing.  Miss Newton has taught at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, The University of Texas-Austin, and The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.  She maintains a full-time studio in New York City.

During her own singing career, Miss Newton shared the stage with many of the world's finest singers, including Beverly Sills, Placido Domingo, Norman Treigle, James King and Regina Resnik.  As a teacher, she is associated with such artists as Susanne Mentzer, Barbara Bonney, Laura Claycomb, Ana Maria Martinez, Jessica Jones, Brett Polegato, Roger Honeywell and Greer Grimsley.

Miss Newton frequently speaks at music schools and has held master classes for the Glimmerglass Opera, the Amalfi Institute, the Houston Opera Studio, the Voice Foundation, Toronto Opera and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.  She was a faculty member of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria for ten years, as a founding member.
