Laurie Altman

Laurie Altman is an assistant professor at Westminster Choir College of Rider University and has taught at the Westminster Conservatory since 1982.

Mr. Altman has received commissions for compositions from Rutgers University, The American Boychoir and the University of North Carolina.  His works have recently been performed at St. Peter’s Citicorp in New York City, at the XXIX Festival International Cervantino in Guanajuato, Mexico, and by members of the Orpheus Chamber Ensemble in Chicago.  His Church Cantata No. 2 will received its world premiere in Philadelphia in October of 2003, and other choral works have been premiered at the Lawrenceville School and the Peddie School. He has received numerous awards, including two from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Lincoln Center Forum Award, the Mason Gross Composition Prize and a University Professors Composition citation.

Mr. Altman has performed over the years at many of the jazz world's most exciting venues, including the Blue Note, Seventh Avenue South, Soundscape and the Ummo Jazz Club in Helsinki, as well as the Autumn Rhythms Jazz Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. His works as a classical composer have been performed throughout the world, including Mexico, Havana, Russia, France and South America.

Laurie Altman earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Mannes College of Music and studied with William Sydeman and Lester Trimble.  He has taught, performed and lectured at Rutgers University, the University of North Carolina and Stanford University.
