Patrick Schmidt is assistant professor of music education at Westminster, where he earned Master degrees in music education and voice pedagogy and performance. A native of Brazil, Mr. Schmidt is a critical theorist whose research interests focus on the implications of critical theory for music education, particularly the work of Brazilian educator Paulo Freire. At Westminster, he teaches "Social and Philosophical Foundations of Music Education" at both graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as "Models of Music Learning". In addition, he coordinates the placement of student teachers and pre-student teaching field-based experiences. Mr. Schmidt also teaches voice at Westminster Conservatory.
