Emerging Leaders

“Making today’s students, tomorrow’s leaders”
Challenge yourself.

Develop your networking skills, hone your leadership skills, build your resume, get involved at Rider and be recognized for your work.

  • Present
The Emerging Leaders Program is open to all new students who have an interest in getting involved and developing their leadership skills. Whether you were involved as a high-school leader or you now have an interest, you are encouraged to participate. This program will assist new students to connect with other students and link you to involvement opportunities throughout the campus. You’ll be introduced to leadership basics and receive important advice that will help guide you during your first year at Rider.

  • Past
Established by the Leadership Development Board, the Emerging Leaders Program has produced some of the major leaders on the Rider campus. The Board is comprised of professional staff and students that meet regularly to plan and implement leadership development initiatives throughout the year. Over the years, the Emerging Leaders Program has produced some of the major leaders on campus, such as student Government leaders, Resident Advisers, Student Center managers and Greek leaders. Nearly everywhere you look, students who started their Rider experience as an Emerging Leader have made a significant impact in the Rider community as well as in the job marketplace.

  • Future
    Freshman Year: Emerging Leader
Freshman Seminars help the new student connect and understand the opportunities available for getting involved throughout the campus. The basics of leadership are introduced.

    Sophomore Year: Evolving Leader
Many of the Emerging Leaders are now involved in leadership positions and important staff positions. Many of these students decided to participate in the Leadership Program sponsored by the Center for the Development of Leadership Skills. Through these experiences, the leader is exposed to specialized training with more intensive skill development to “develop the leader within you.”

    Junior Year: Engaged Leader
This leader has now received many levels of training because of their leadership positions, and course work on leadership. The expectations are higher for these leaders to serve as role models and the opportunity to create new initiatives is encouraged. The junior leader is now invited to participate in leadership seminars, which focus on critical thinking.

    Senior Year: Endeared Leader
The senior leader is encouraged to leave their mark at Rider. Senior leaders hold many of the premier leadership positions on campus and internship opportunities. The emphasis for this leader is to “develop the leaders around you.” Public-speaking opportunities on behalf of the university are offered and this leader now has increased marketability for future career aspirations.
