Why did you choose to attend Rider?  I chose Rider University because it was the perfect distance away from home; it is also conveniently located near Princeton, and perfectly between Philadelphia and New York City. Rider University also has one of the best business schools in the county and a new student-oriented administration.  Everything that a student needs is only a few-minute walk away and what sold me were the professors and staff—they are the nicest people to talk to on the phone when you have a question or in person when you pass them by on a sidewalk.

What do you like about Rider?  I enjoy that I have been able to continue learning Spanish while pursuing my interests in international affairs, politics and business. There is such flexibility among the different disciplines that allowed for me to build my degree from areas that I find interesting and important.

I have had an amazing time living in the Resident Halls. This, my last year, has been particularly great in that I am a Resident Advisor for the Freshman Experience. This position has allowed for me not only to watch a floor of strangers become a community of good friends, but to participate in their acclamation to both college and Rider life.  I know I’ll miss them, but I also know that I have 24 places I can stay when I come back to visit over the next few years.

What was/is your favorite course? The Social Construction of a Global Society

What professor at Rider has influenced you most?  Why?  It is very hard to pick just one professor because here at Rider I have had the opportunity to get to know all the professors from my majors and minors on a personal level; it is inevitable to do so not only because small class sizes, but because Rider professors profoundly care. They share their experiences with us in and out of class, and open their offices, personal libraries and sometimes homes to us.

However, I must say that one of the most influential professors here at Rider is Dr. Linda S. Materna, Chairperson for the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature. She sets high standards for me and my classmates and encourages us to succeed while setting a uniquely wonderful example of how a non-native speaker, like her, can achieve international recognition in another language; she will be lecturing before Spanish Royalty this summer at the Real Academia Española, the institution that preserves the Spanish language.  Her high level of achievement and passion to inspire has affected me to set my standards high and attain the most I can out of my Rider career.  She is one of the reasons why I studied abroad in Granada, Spain.

What are your career plans following graduation?  I have been accepted into graduate school at Boston University where I will pursue a Master Degree in International Relations and Energy & Environmental Policy.
