Why did you choose Rider ?I chose Rider on a whim because I liked its small, comfortable size and was impressed by caring faculty members I had met at an open house. I had no idea back then how close I would become with those faculty members and how much of an impact they would have on me.

What do you like about Rider? My professors. They are the individuals that make Rider such an amazing place to be. There are so many classes that I actually look forward to each day because of my teachers. They are the people who inspire me and make me excited about what I’m learning, even if it’s a poem that I may have already read a dozen times. I like that I can sit down with one of them and have an intellectual conversation about journalism, literature or politics and I can walk away feeling like I’ve really gained valuable insight from someone I truly respect.

What is your favorite class, and why? I love so many of my classes but my favorites are probably my lit classes. I especially enjoyed taking Methods of Literary Analysis and Romantic and Victorian literature. This semester, I particularly like my Medieval Literature class because of the material and the time period we explore through the readings. We actually learned to read and speak Middle English. It’s pretty awesome that I can say I know how to do that. I also love my Dance History class this semester because it’s a lecture but we’re constantly standing up learning world dance forms and watching interesting videos on dance.

What person at Rider has had the most impact on you, and why? There are so many people at Rider who have changed my life. Dr. Kim Chandler-Vaccaro, the head of the dance program, has spent hours of her own time working with me one on one to help me achieve my goals. When I first came to Rider, I was a good dancer but had no formal training and no experience with ballet or modern dance forms. She has transformed me into a beautiful ballet dancer and has taught me everything from modern to jazz and everything in between, including Irish step dancing. She also has helped me to express myself through movement and choreography. Essentially, she has opened my eyes to an art form that I have always felt bound to but, until now, had never really had the opportunity to explore and she has coached my through it every step of the way. Others who have had a tremendous impact on me include Dr. John Hulsman of the English Department and Dr. Thomas Simonet of the Communication Department.

What are your career plans following graduation? After graduation, I hope to continue dancing and would like to work for a year, possibly as a journalist until I feel ready to attend graduate school, where I plan on studying British literature.

Hobbies: Writing, reading and dancing
