Learning Initiatives
Learn within and beyond the walls of our classrooms.
The Division of Academic Affairs at Rider University builds bridges and creates connections between and among academic programs, between academic and student life activities, and between the University and the external community. Maintaining and improving program quality, and encouraging innovation and interdisciplinarity, are high priorities.
Examples include:
- Inter-departmental programs in Global Business, Law & Justice, Multi-cultural Studies, Gender Studies, American Studies, and Music Theater.
- Promoting joint projects between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, such as Service Learning and Community-based Research, as well as Learning Communities for the Baccalaureate Honors Program, the Sciences, and University Studies students, based in our residentce halls.
- State-of-the-Art, technology-based, learning loci, such as the Teaching & Learning Center and the Center for Innovative Instruction.
The concept of "connectedness" derives from --- and drives --- Rider's recognition that teaching and learning are collaborative enterprises which must be grounded in Real-World goals and activities, if they are to optimize the interface between liberal education and professional preparation. Connectedness provides the flexibility required and demanded by our creative, ambitious, career-conscious students.
