CONNECT-ED at QUEST Summer Institute (2 weeks)  July 7 - 18, 2008

This year, CONNECT-ED sessions will be held on the Rider University campus, and QUEST sessions will be held on the Princeton University campus.  CONNECT-ED sessions for elementary, middle, and high school teachers (combined) are as follows:

  • Week One (July 7 - 11): Earth Science.  Big Idea Modules (BIMs) led by teams of elementary, middle, and high school teachers and a university or industry scientist will focus on weather, structure, dynamics and geophysical systems of the Earth.  Lead Scientist for the week is Laurel Goodell, Geosciences, Princeton University.
  • Week Two (July 14 - 18): Life Science.  Big Idea Modules led by teams of elementary, middle and high school teachers and a university or industry scientist will focus on DNA and inherited characteristics, and diversity of life.  Lead Scientist for the week is Dr. Chris Meighan, Molecular Biology, Princeton University.

Science &Technology for Children (STC) Training Workshops for Elementary Teachers  August 5 - 6, 2008

Rider University's Bristol-Myers Squibb Center for Science Teaching and Learning, Lawrenceville, NJ

Registration Deadline: June 30, 2008

The National Science Resources Center (NSRC), in collaboration with the Rider University Science Education and Literacy Center (SELECT), will offer one-day training workshops in four STC modules:

  • August 5: Microworlds
  • August 5: Motion and Design
  • August 6: Ecosystems
  • August 6: Electric Circuits

The registration fee for the full-day program is $50 per workshop.  A generous grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation is helping to underwrite the remainder of participant costs. Two full-day workshops are offered each day.  Participants may register for either one or two workshops (one workshop per day). Participant will earn six professional development hours per workshop.
