Facilities
"We shape our buildings. Thereafter, our buildings shape us."
-Winston Churchill
The administrative hub of the TLC is located in the Bristol-Myers Squibb Center for Science Teaching and Learning, a 7,500-sq. ft. facility on the top floor of Rider's Science and Technology Center. It features state-of-the-art technology and an open design that fosters active learning and interaction. Large and small combination laboratory/classrooms encourage student collaboration by removing artificial divides, such as found in a lecture hall, allowing students to work in groups as they would in the laboratory. Wireless laptops, digital microscopes, TI calculators and digital probes provide the technology to gather, analyze and discuss data in a single integrative setting. An open student interaction/study area is intended to draw students into the Center and provide interaction and study space. The classrooms are open to all faculty from all disciplines. The Center features:
- Flexible spaces for small or large classes and gatherings, including seminars, workshops, receptions, and poster symposia
- Movable tables and chairs for constructing alternative room designs
- Sinks, counters, outlets, and ample storage for lab use/equipment and manipulatives
- High visibility of activities
- View corridors that draw people inward
- Seating that invites students, faculty, and visitors to linger
- Areas that stimulate student learning and provide space for study, conversation, and interaction
- Wireless Internet and distance learning capabilities
