Scheduled Telephone, Voice Mail and E-mail Outage

Dates: Thursday, August 27
             Friday, August 28
             Saturday, August 29

Services affected: Telephone, voice mail and e-mail
Users affected:  Lawrenceville campus only

Please be advised that during the period of time from Thursday, August 27, to Saturday, August 29, the Office of Information Technologies will be performing required upgrades in two phases that will involve significant e-mail and telephone outages.

The first period will be Thursday, August 27, from 5 to 10 p.m. During this time, the e-mail servers will be upgraded. All access to e-mail will be unavailable during this time period.

The second period will begin on Friday, August 28, at 7 p.m., and last through noon on Saturday, August 29.

OIT will again be attempting to upgrade the telephone system on the Lawrenceville campus. These upgrades, once fully installed, will set the stage for a number of service enhancements such as improved call management during high call volume periods and the ability to listen to voice mail via your e-mail or the Web.

This upgrade, originally set for August 8, could not be completed as scheduled on the Lawrenceville campus. The cause of the failure was identified, and the upgrade to the Westminster system the following weekend was successful.

As with the original upgrade attempt, telephone services on the Lawrenceville campus will be unavailable during this time.

During this outage, all calls coming into the Lawrenceville campus will be routed to and answered by The Department of Public Safety. Public Safety will have additional staff working during the outage period to handle the call volume.

Please note: All designated emergency phones, such as pay phones, previously identified fax lines, etc., and the Public Safety emergency and non-emergency numbers will remain operational during the outage.

In the event voice services remain unavailable beyond the outage period, users are encouraged to check the University home page, Technology HelpDesk Web page, or e-mail helpdesk@rider.edu.

Please contact the OIT HelpDesk in advance of this outage if you have questions at 609-219-3000 (option 3).

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve the telephone system for our campus community.
