- Jean Kutcher, administrative director of the Teaching/Learning Center and the Science Education and Literacy Center (SELECT), has received the United States Labor Department grant from the executive committee of the Central Jersey BIO-1 WIRED (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) program. The award is for $157,000 and covers the period of July 1, 2008, through June 30, 2009. Kutcher also received a grant from the Martinson Family Foundation in support of the CONNECT-Ed program. The award is for $300,000 and is for the period from January 1, 2009, through December 31, 2010.
- F. William “Chick” Chickering, dean of University Libraries, received the latest in a series of grants from the John Robert Gregg Fund, the New York Community Trust. The award amount is $94,000 and is for a two-year period from August 1, 2008, through July 31, 2010.
- Dr. Ilhan Meric, professor of Finance, had a paper entitled Stock Market Crashes, Firm Characteristics and Stock Returns accepted for publication in the Journal of Banking and Finance. The JBF is one of the top-tier academic journals in the finance field, with an average acceptance rate of about 6 percent. The paper was co-authored with two faculty members from Rowan University and one from Penn State University.
- Dr. Barry Seldes, professor of Political Science, had his book Leonard Bernstein: The Political Life of an American Musician published by University of California Press. In this fresh and revealing biography, Seldes examines Bernstein’s career against the backdrop of Cold War America. This broadly accessible and impressively documented account of the celebrity-maestro’s life deepens the understanding of an entire era as it reveals important and often ignored intersections of American culture and political power.
