Statistical Software

Currently, OIT supports two statistical packages (Stata and SPSS) and a data transfer program (Stat Transfer) for faculty research.

  1. Stata is a statistical package for managing, analyzing and graphing data.  It may be used as either a point-and-click application or as a command driven application.
    • Faculty support is provided to get you started with Stata and to answer questions about Stata.
    • Additional information about Stata can be found at www.stata.com.

  2. SPSS is a statistical package for the social sciences.  It is typically used as a point-and-click application.
    • Rider University has a site license for this package.  Therefore, it is available to the students in the computer labs and classrooms.
    • Additional information about SPSS can be found at www.spss.com.

  3. Stat Transfer is a data transfer program.  It that allows you to transform data with the click of a button.  For example, you can convert data from an Excel format to an SPSS format.

Both packages are available for either Mac or PC.  Documentation for both is available at the reference desk in the library.
