James McBride to Speak on Lawrenceville Campus
Come and hear author, musician and screenwriter James McBride share excerpts from his work during a public reading at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, in BLC Theater. The event is part of the Rider University’s Educational Opportunity Program Distinguished Writers Series.



Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
The Rider community is invited to experience the realities of homelessness and hunger in our society and learn how to combat the issues during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, which will be held from Monday, November 16 through Saturday, November 21.



Field Hockey Chases a Perfect ‘10’
The Rider field hockey team is on a magical ride, one that you would think only comes along about once every decade. But over the past 10 seasons, the Broncs have been a fixture in the Northeast Conference playoffs, and have even reached its title game in all but one. Even by those lofty standards, however, the 2009 edition has a chance to top them all. The top-seeded Broncs, begin their quest for the Northeast Conference playoff championship on November 6.



International Week 2009 Schedule of Events
Rider University will celebrate the global cultures and diverse backgrounds of its community members during International Week 2009 from Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 13. This year’s activities will represent various organizations and departments of the University, including Global Studies, Service Learning and Campus Life.



Fall Career Fair
The Office of Career Services encourages all undergraduate and graduate students, as well as Rider University alumni, to attend the Rider Career Fair on Thursday, November 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Cavalla Room.



Newark Mayor Cory Booker at Rider University
Join Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker for a roundtable discussion with students about the importance of student involvement in the political arena on Monday, October 26, in the SRC Seminar Room from 3 to 4:15 p.m.



War Child ‘Raps’ Up Unity Days
Emmanuel Jal says that the African way of writing history is to tell stories. “I’m just doing it in a musical way,” explained the international hip-hop star, who was at Rider’s Bart Luedeke Center Theater on Monday, October 19, to talk about his experiences as a child soldier in Sudan. Jal’s keynote address was the stirring culmination of the University’s Unity Days 2009 celebration.

Rider Students Videoconference with Peers in Iraq
As the clock ticks past 9:10 a.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J., eight Rider University students wonder what a similar group of learners is thinking 6,000 miles away in Najaf, Iraq, at the same time. On either side of an intercontinental videoconferencing connection, which is just moments from being established, there is nervous but excited anticipation among the students. What will be discussed? Will we find common ground?



On a Roll – Hinkle Lands a Spot in World Championship
During the week, Chelsea Hinkle excels as a junior Accounting and Finance dual major, but as soon as Friday afternoon rolls around, it’s time for her to lace up her skates. When Hinkle hits the rink, she jumps and spins like any of the most famous figure skaters. Hinkle, however, doesn’t compete on the ice. A competitive roller figure skater, Hinkle practices for at least 18 hours on the weekend during the academic year and 30 to 40 hours a week during the summer.

Fisher Studies the Past While Focusing on the Future
An avid history buff since grade school, Robert Fisher had been attending lectures at the David Library of the American Revolution in Washington Crossing, Pa., for years before ever enrolling at Rider University. So when the senior History major had the opportunity for an internship at the Library, he grabbed it. Now, though Fisher is fond of studying the past, he already has his sights on the future, including a subject for his doctoral dissertation.



Unity Days Will Focus on Social Justice
“Social Justice” is the theme for this year’s Unity Days, which will feature a screening of the documentary film War Child and a keynote address by its subject, former Sudanese child soldier and current hip-hop artist Emmanuel Jal. The annual event, held this year from October 14 to 19, brings students, faculty and staff together, and celebrates all the diverse elements that make up the Rider community. Unity Days will also offer workshops that aim to celebrate social change and progress in civil rights and diversity.



Students Get Tips from the Pros at Dinner with the Elite
Rider students with an eye on politics enjoyed a unique opportunity to dine with three local political figures in a friendly, relaxed and conversational setting on October 1 at the Trenton Marriott. Dinner with the Elite: Exploring New Jersey Politics, sponsored by the Center for the Development of Leadership Skills (CDLS) and the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics, allowed students to learn the ups and downs of governmental affairs from three uniquely different points of view.



New CCS Program Clears Hurdles for Latino Students
In order to alleviate the obstacles to enrolling in higher education that many Latino students face, Rider’s College of Continuing Studies has created the new Fomentamos Tu Futuro program to help provide support and guidance for the students of Latino descent.



Playing Through -- Rider Freshman and Former High School Athlete Conquers Cancer
In high school, Amelia Corney was an accomplished student-athlete. In the afternoons, Corney would play golf for the girls’ team at Spring-Ford High School in Montgomery County, Pa. By night, she competed on the USS Tiger Sharks club swim team at The Hill School in nearby Pottstown. It was not until the beginning of her junior year in high school, however, that Corney encountered her toughest competition. In September 2007, at the age of 16, she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.



Rider to Celebrate Family Weekend, Founder’s Day 2009
Family Weekend, November 6 - 8, has something for everyone, including performances, athletic games and the Founder’s Day program, which will recognize 61 Andrew J. Rider Scholars.



Founder’s Day Program Honors 61 Scholars
Rider’s Family Weekend was highlighted by the Founder’s Day Awards Ceremony, a tradition that honors Rider’s top students as Andrew J. Rider Scholars, on Saturday, November 7. The award, named for the founder and first president of the institution, honors the top one percent of sophomores, juniors and seniors in each of Rider’s six academic colleges and schools – the College of Business Administration, the School of Education, the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Continuing Studies, Westminster Choir College, and the School of Fine and Performing Arts – based on their grade point averages.



Egusquiza Counts Her Goals
While her teammates on Rider’s field hockey team were juggling their time between practice and their studies, midfield/forward Virginia Egusquiza faced another challenge during her freshman year on campus. Egusquiza, now a sophomore International Business and Business Administration dual major from Getxo, Spain, had studied Spanish, Basque and English since she was a young student, but she said she still needed to adjust to the English language because of the prevalent American accent.



Come Support Rider Professor and Climate Ride Cyclists
The Energy and Sustainability Steering Committee is organizing a trip for all students, faculty and staff to Lambertville to cheer on the cyclists, including Alexander Grushow, chair of the Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics department, and support a good cause for climate action. The cyclists will bike through Lambertville/New Hope between 9 and 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 27.



Center for International Business Presents "China's Developing Markets and Their Impact on the World"
Starting a business from scratch in any industry is difficult in any country. Starting a business in which you have had no prior experience, in a country where you have never worked and whose language you cannot speak is almost beyond comprehension. But it is possible, says Jack Perkowski. On Wednesday, September 16, Rider’s Center for International Business will host “China’s Developing Markets and Their Impact on the World,” where Perkowski will describe his experiences and discuss the current business climate in the world’s most populous country.



CCS Student Annabel Torres Wins P.E.O. Scholarship
Most people go on vacation to relax and forget about the realities of life for a few days, but in Annabel Torres’s case, a casual conversation during a family vacation set her on course to return to college after an absence of more than 10 years.



Cranberry Fest Celebrates 30th Anniversary at Rider
Rider University has celebrated its heritage every September since 1979 with Cranberry Fest, and this year’s 30th anniversary celebration on Thursday, September 10, figures to be one of the biggest and best yet. This year’s event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Daly Dining Hall.



Fall Semester Shuttle Schedule is Now Available
The campus shuttle program will operate Monday-Thursday and Saturdays. The weekday shuttle will connect the Lawrenceville and Princeton campuses and allow students to take advantage of academic and co-curricular opportunities on both campuses. The Saturday shuttle will link Rider students to the Mercer County region.



The Center for International Education Hosts Study Abroad Week September 14 - 18
The Center for International Education hosts a week of Study Abroad Information Sessions with a Study Abroad Fair included to help you explore the many study abroad opportunities at Rider.

“Community Connections” is the welcoming theme for all members of the Rider University community, particularly new students, faculty and staff on the Lawrenceville and Princeton campuses.



Rider Receives State Funding to Expand Tutoring Options For Students
As a result of a U.S. Department of Labor-funded grant for $106,000, Rider University will offer tutoring services by experienced adult professionals who are students in its Graduate Level Teacher Preparation (GLTP) Program.
