Student Success Center

At Rider, success is about having the right support.

The Student Success Center offers Rider University students free programs and services designed intentionally to maximize student involvement in their own learning and development.  Our staff of administrators and trained peer tutors, peer assistants, and  student success coaches work collaboratively with students as they discover options for creating academic and personal success.

The Student Success Center mission is to enhance student learning and development through our programs and staff.

Our goal is to assist Rider University students as they:

> become active, informed, and confident learners

> learn to manage themselves

> accept responsibility for their choices

> make positive contributions to the campus community

Students enrolled in the fall 2007/Advanced Publication and Design and Presentation/ course with Dr. Graham McKinley were given the opportunity to create a logo for the Student Success Center.  Kendall Friedman, Director of the Student Success Center, attended class to familiarize the students with the Success Center's mission, vision, philosophy, and programs. Class member designs were presented and later shared with the Success Center professional and student staff.  The Student Success Center is proud to unveil the new logo, a combined effort of Ashleigh Ondy and Rachel Boyes:

The Student Success thanks Dr. McKinley and her class for their creativity. Student-centeredness is at the heart of the Rider University mission and of the Student Success Center programs, so it is fitting that our logo be designed by Rider students.

Student Success Center programs and services include:

Tutoring Services

Successful Rider University students, recommended by faculty and trained through an internationally certified tutor training curriculum provide Peer Assisted Study Sessions -- individual or group tutoring sessions -- free of charge, for most content courses offered at Rider.  Students review course content  and develop sound study strategies with successful peers who have already mastered the material.  E-mail us at TutoringServices@rider.edu for more information.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are peer tutors who collaborate with the course professor and  specially trained Student Success Center staff to assist students in specific courses.    SI Leaders attend class and hold multiple review sessions each week.  These specially trained tutors guide students as they review course content by utilizing creative, interactive study techniques. For more information about SI, e-mail us at TutoringServices@rider.edu.

Rider Achievement Program

First-year students admitted to the Rider Achievement Program (RAP) are required to participate in an exciting week long summer program that eases the transition to college and to be part of a specially designed program offered during their first year at Rider.   Contact Mary Beth Carstens at 609-896-5238 or mcarstens@rider.edu for more information.

Academic Probation Supports

Students on conditional academic standing are encouraged to participate in a Student Success Center program designed to empower students as they determine, apply, and evaluate the strategies essential for their personal and academic success.  For further information contact our staff at StudentSuccessCenter@rider.edu.
