The New Jersey State Parole Board’s Information Technology Unit has secured approval to employ an Information Technology Specialist to assist with the management and operation of its Novell network. The position is non-competitive in nature meaning qualified applicants can be hired from outside the State’s Civil Service System. After one year of satisfactory service, the incumbent will be afforded full New Jersey Civil Service status entitling them to the protection, security and promotional opportunities made available to all permanent, full time employees of the State. Starting salary is approximately $50,000 annually for a 35 hour work week. Paid vacation, sick and administrative leave as well as paid medical, dental, prescription plan, life insurance and participation in the State’s retirement system is provided commencing with employment.
The duties associated with the position as listed below:
• Determines the best configuration for networking software to insure the most efficient utilization of system storage, server capacity and availability.
• Diagnoses networking problems and meets with network administrators to find solutions and take appropriate action to correct errors.
• Develops images for desk and lop top computers that incorporate system applications and insures software is interacting with out errors.
• Monitors network system operations, applies patches and upgrades, maintains currency of security software. Deploys new software and operating system modifications minimizing adverse effects on current operations.
• Monitors system capacities to insure adequate resources for user demands.
• Maintains availability of network services including file service, printing, email, Internet, productivity applications, enterprise applications and mainframe gateways.
• Tracks, diagnoses and corrects network related issues gathered from various sources on problems dealing with operating systems, computers, utility programs, system control parameters software/hardware, and application system programs.
• Assists in the design and planning of the network hardware, infrastructure and applications.
• Researches specifications and pricing for IT related hardware and makes recommendations for acquisition.
• Checks and responds to errors logged by the server and/or network devices.
• Provides technical support to end-users.
