This vacancy announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies in any of the jurisdictions of the Architect of the Capitol.
DUTIES:
This is an opportunity to join the team of the new United States Capitol Visitor Center (CVC). The CVC is a 580,000 square foot state-of-the art extension of the U.S. Capitol that will welcome visitors to the seat of American government. The incumbent performs audiovisual (AV) duties to ensure a quality visitor experience in the CVC. Sets up and operates projection and audio equipment in the CVC’s Orientation Theaters, Virtual Theaters, Congressional Auditorium, Exhibition Gallery and conference rooms. Types of equipment include: professional theater projection and lighting equipment, and presentation equipment such as LCD projectors, laptop computers, and projection screens. As required, works directly with contractors who provide routine services or products in the areas of video production, audio/visual support, and related planning and consulting.
Interconnects various units to fill the unique needs of each production. Tunes, adjusts, monitors, analyzes the performance of, and makes appropriate adjustments to the equipment while the system is operating during a production or presentation. Determines from meters, and audio monitors which, if any, adjustments must be made to assure a program presentation which is of the highest technical quality.
Coordinates the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of AV equipment. Receives, responds to, and ensures the resolution of customer requests for assistance on issues related to both the equipment and associated software. Examines malfunctioning hardware to isolate defective parts and investigates whether inappropriate logical configurations are causing the problem. Identifies and carries out actions for immediate remedy, or recommends a cost-effective solution to management. Develops and maintains knowledge of selected desktop software packages in order to provide customer assistance in support of AV equipment. Installs, configures, and tests software on workstations associated with AV equipment. Processes requests to order new hardware and software, assessing its compatibility with existing or planned systems. Monitors patterns of parts failure or repair records for quality control.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the set up, configuration, and operation of audiovisual systems.
Knowledge of standard computer hardware/software technologies associated with audiovisual systems.
Ability to plan and deliver customer support services in conjunction with operations that require audiovisual equipment.
Ability to meet and deal with others in a public venue.
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifying experience for the GS-9 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-7 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of relevant knowledge and skills are demonstrated experience in setting up, configuring, operating, and maintaining a wide variety of AV equipment, such as theater projection and lighting equipment, and presentation equipment such as LCD projectors, laptop computers, and projection screens.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: The experience requirement for the GS-9 level may be met by two (2) full academic years of graduate level education or completion of all requirements for a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.
