Mercer County Youth Advocate Program

Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. (YAP) is one of the largest non-profit Youth and Family Support agencies working with high-risk youth and their families in the United States. The Bridgespan Group recently cited YAP as one of the fastest growing non-profits in the past 30 years. Our mission is to provide individuals who are, have been or may be subject to compulsory care with the opportunity to develop, contribute and be valued as assets so that communities have safe, proven effective and economical alternatives to institutional placement.  Agency philosophy stems from the premise that every individual and family has strengths and capabilities that can and must be developed. Guiding the development of those strengths are the Core Principles of the Advocate Programs. The principles reflect the agency's ongoing commitment to family-focused programming that empowers youth and families to lead healthy, safe and productive lives.  YAP is serving over 2,000 youth and families at any given time. The agency provides child welfare, mental health and juvenile justice systems with cost-effective alternatives to residential, correctional and other out-of-home placements.
