Instructional Support Assistant - Ecology and Evolution

Required Qualifications: Associate's degree. Incumbent should have education directly related to the field of research. One year of full time education or research experience directly related to marine research or related programs. Prior experience in a laboratory environment either as a student or employee. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Applicants must submit their operator's license number on their application form for a motor vehicle check.
Preferred Qualifications: BA/BS. Experience with bivalve shellfish and experience with marine field sampling protocols.

Brief Description of Duties: To assist with field work and analyses for a project examining the feasibility of restoring oysters to the lower Hudson River in New York.

    * Field sampling, monitoring, and oyster cage maintenance.
    * Identification/enumeration of benthic organisms; oyster condition analysis.
    * General laboratory maintenance and requisitioning.
    * Chlorophyll analysis.
    * Data entry duties.


Special Notes: This is a full time appointment, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Shift may vary. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Travel to field sites in New York City and Haverstraw Bay, NY, once or twice per week is required. *****This is a two year temporary position that is scheduled to end on March 31, 2010.

The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.

Salary:    $28,989 - $30,000
