Life Skills Counselor and Master's Level Counselor

Anchor House

he Anchorage Transitional Living Program provides transitional living services to homeless youth ages 18-21 and youth ages 18-21 who are aging out of the New Jersey child welfare system to ensure their successful transition to independence.  Each youth is assisted in developing the skills necessary to obtain and maintain permanent living arrangements, gainful employment, community resources, appropriate medical care, financial assistance, and behavioral and health emergency crisis services.  The program provides residential and out client services to the target population such as: safe, supervised living accommodations for an average length of 18-24 months; food, clothing and transportation; individual and family therapy; intensive life skills education; computer literacy skills; case management and advocacy; and recreational/cultural activities.  The average number of youth served residentially each year is 10-14, depending on the length of stay of ea!
 ch youth, with an additional 25 youth being served on an out client basis each year.  The youth are directly involved in design, operation, and evaluation of the Anchorage; each component of the program is developed on individual needs, strengths, and desires. We ensure that the youth are taught the skills they need to be the primary decision-makers in their lives.   This transitional living program operates a group home as well as a supported housing  apartment program, Anchor Line. In the last year, The Anchorage provided long-term residential services to 26 youth.  100% of those youth attended an educational program with 10 attending college. In addition, 127 youth were provided life skills training and counseling.
