Resource Assistant

Planning Office of Monmouth County Park System

Resource management opportunities with the Planning Office of the Monmouth County Park System include inventory of park natural resources, restoration and management project implementation and evaluation, and trail facility inventory and light maintenance.  The work requires the ability to work outdoors independently in data collection and observation
and map reading and orientation.  A current drivers license is required to operate a County vehicle to get to the various work sites. The position will need a reasonable level of expertise in some aspect of natural resources or natural history; skills in botany, ornithology, ecology orforestry would be expected.  Skills in GIS/GPS are desirable.

The work hours are flexible, generally Monday to Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM, with some part-time and some full-time work periods. Work is out of Lincroft, NJ, but includes all of Monmouth County.

The pay is $12 per hour with the maximum work period of 9 months per year.

The position reports to the Planning Department of the Acquisition and
Design office in Thompson Park, Lincroft, NJ.

Project examples (exact work may vary according to skills):

Vegetation Mapping - Current vegetation mapping projects include the identification and extent of invasive species, the location and condition of specimen trees and the mapping of vegetation communities within park system properties.  This mapping project involves mapping using GPS and GIS technologies to produce maps and data sets of the resource.  The work is technical and training will be provided in using equipment and in the
collection of data.

Species utilization - Identification and inventory/mapping of key species
using park properties, ie. field nesting birds.
