Description = Title: Entry-level Programmer Trainee/Associate Programmer  Work Location:  Lebanon, NJ  (multiple positions)     Madison Avenue, NYC (multiple positions) Sleepy Hollow, Westchester, NY (multiple positions)  New York Life’s Technology Department is currently looking for recent or soon-to-be college graduates to be hired as trainees for the Mainframe Training Program to start in June 2008. The twenty-four month training period combines classroom instruction, independent studies, mentoring, formal training and real world experience to transform a new employee into an experienced technology professional. This individual will become familiar with New York Life’s systems, products, technology and environment. The program seeks candidates with an intense desire to learn, a high level of motivation, programming aptitude, commitment and excellent ability to work in a team.  The employee position starts with a two-year training program (through classroom instruction and on the job training) that will enable employees to develop expertise in the research, analysis, design, development, installation, documentation and testing of various technologies and NYL systems including:  · Application programs · Database systems · System software · Repository systems · Infrastructure systems · BAL ASSEMBLER, COBOL II, JCL, PL1, DB2, SQL, CICS  Candidates will: · Receive training to increase knowledge of computer software/hardware and NYL technologies · Participate in coding and testing modifications or enhancements to programs, procedures, and processes · Work with manager to conduct unit testing and assist in system acceptance testing · Debug basic programs  · Produce test results for review  · Perform routine processing using system and program product utilities  · Document processing and programs as required  · Utilize development tools and common routines as directed  · Assist in analyzing production problems, identifies source and assists in problem resolution · Become familiar with the concepts of logicaland physical database design  · Assist in developing and modifying data and module design specifications · Acquire general knowledge of the business aspects of assigned work group functions · Perform other assignments to comply with Corporate Information’s mission 

Qualifications = Required Skills: · Bachelor’s degree with 3.0 GPA or higher · Acceptable score on Berger Programming Aptitude test (NYL will administer test)  · Good written and verbal communications skills · Completed coursework in at least one technology class  Desired/Optional Skills: Classes in Applications programming, DBMS, system software, data modeling, CASE tool usage, repository, PC and UNIX environments, graphical user interface programming.
