AREA OF CONSIDERATION: US citizens - CSOSA is accepting applications for an Intern. Applications will be accepted from students who wish to work part-time while pursuing a BA or BS degree. This position will be filled on a temporary basis through the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and appointments may be extended on a yearly basis until the student completes the requirements for a degree.

AGENCY BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The National Capital Revitalization and Self-Government Improvement Act of 1997 established the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency as a federal agency on August 5, 2000.
The mission of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA) is to increase public safety, prevent crime, reduce recidivism, and support the fair administration of justice in close collaboration with the community. The Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency presents our nation’s capital with a unique opportunity to create a new level of offender supervision, which in turn will provide a safer environment for our citizens.
The strategic goals of the Agency are 1) Establish strict accountability and prevent the population supervised by CSOSA from engaging in criminal activity, and 2) Support the fair administration of justice by providing accurate information and meaningful recommendations to criminal justice decision makers.

DUTIES:(The duties described reflect the full performance level of this position)
Prepares correspondence, reports, technical documents, graphs/charts, forms, and other office support materials.Uses advanced office automation software functions including the importation/exportation of graphics and data. Employs spreadsheet, desktop publishing, and presentation software to produce office support materials. Assists in setting up and maintaining subject matter files including technical instructions, operating procedures, confidential documents, and other materials. Establishes and maintains files in accordance with agency requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:(The KSAs below may not apply at all grades)
Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and required formats.
Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
Skill in operating word processing equipment to support office operations and produce a variety of standardized documents such as letters, memos and reports.
Knowledge of clerical practices and office routines.
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 03: Qualifying experience for the GS-3 level includes six (6) months of general experience in clerical, office, or other work which indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Examples of experience include using word processing software and printing devices to produce a variety of standard documents, such as letters and reports. Using basic office automation software applications and printing functions. Answers the phone and transfers the call to the appropriate party. Also greets visitors and assists with their needs. Makes photocopies as necessary and also sends documents via the fax machine.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: The experience requirements for the GS-3 level may be met by completion of one full year of full-time academic study in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than one year (usually of at least 3 months duration) may meet in full the experience requirements. Such courses may have been obtained through a variety of programs such as those offered by business or technical schools, and through military training programs. The course must have been designed specifically as career preparation for the work of the position being filled, and must have provided the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work.
COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and general experience may be used to meet the total experience requirements.
Grade 04: Qualifying experience for the GS-4 level includes one (1) year of general experience in clerical, office, or other work which indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position, or two (2) years of education above the high school level. Examples of experience include answering the phones and transferring the calls to the appropriate party. Greeting visitors and assists with their needs. Supporting immediate office operations by compiling and documenting information to assist office staff with various program activities. Making photocopies as necessary and also sends documents via the fax machine.
Preparing charts and graphs as requested by Senior Staff by utilizing Microsoft Excel or other appropriate software programs. Producing a variety of form letters as directed and maintaining records in a professional filing system.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Must be enrolled in or accepted to (with the intent to attend) an accredited high school, technical, vocational, college or university, graduate or professional school; and carry at a minimum, a half-time course load as defined by the institution.
- Must be a United States citizen or national. If you are not a citizen, you may participate if you are legally admitted to the United States as a permanent resident, and are able to meet citizenship requirements prior to completion of your degree.
