Investigator Trainees

New Jersey Department of the Treasury

Position_Description = Investigator Trainees interview taxpayers to identify non-compliance with tax laws, collect tax liabilities, conduct surveillance operations, prepare and deliver legal documents, conduct seizures and auctions of businesses and  personal property, and work with law enforcement agencies to enforce the tax laws of New Jersey.  Criminal Investigator Trainees investigate and detect criminal violations of tax laws and prepare cases for criminal  prosecution.  Field positions located throughout the State and office positions located in Trenton are available.  

Qualifications = Minimum Requirements Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.  Must have completed classes required for your Bachelor’s degree by May 31, 2008; with degree awarded no later than June 30, 2008.   Degrees obtained outside of the United States must be evaluated.  A listing of evaluation services is provided at www.state.nj.us/personnel.    Additional Requirements:  Must be a New Jersey resident as of the date of the walk-in examination which is scheduled for May 3, 2008.  Must have authorization to work in the United States  In accordance with NJ Merit System rules, these positions are subject to examination procedures  Positions are subject to a background investigation, which must be completed successfully  A valid NJ driver’s license and reliable transportation may be necessary for field positions 

PLEASE NOTE:  The Investigator Trainee may be made appropriate for the Tax Representative Trainee – if positions are available.  Candidates who meet the minimum requirements, must take and pass a two-part examination administered by the New Jersey Department of Personnel. Candidates who pass part one, a walk-in written examination, will be scheduled for the second part, an oral examination at a later date at the Division of Taxation in Trenton or Newark.    In order to be considered for this employment opportunity, you must take and pass the written examination, which is to be held on May 3, 2008.
