POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Monmouth Vicinage is seeking a well-organized secretary to work under the general direction of a Superior Court Judge. The selected individual needs strong technical and administrative skills to support the judge. Duties include, but are not limited to: conforming judge’s orders and maintaining the workflow in/out of judicial chambers; communicating the judge’s schedule with division administration and case management personnel; preparation and submission of locaF and state reports; management of incoming and outgoin9 communications, including mail, telephone, case conference calls and follow-up of same; procuring supplies and equipment and inventory for chambers, and any additional duties as required and assigned. Strong computer skills needed for information processing using Judiciary-wide computer systems. Formatting and typing jury instructions, charges, judicial opinions and other legal documents. Composing routine correspondence, such as form letters or standard replies to inquiries; composing non-routine correspondence; answerin inquiries from the public; editing letters, documents or articles; filing records, and serving as liaison between the judge an the case management and operating divisions.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Three years of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include typing and one or more of the following: preparing and analyzing legal documents; processing legal or other documents; transcribing information and scheduling meetings or appointments.
Note: Working knowledge of MS Office and transcription equipment would be helpful. Also, experience working with diverse populations is helpful.
Substitution: Successful completion of a clerical training program with a minimum of 700 classroom training hours or 30 semester hour credits in secretarial science may be substituted for one year of experience indicated above. Course work must include typing skills, methods and procedures; other courses may include, but are not limited to, office procedures, word processing and Business English.
Testing: Applicants selected to interview must pass an appointing authority administered examination to demonstrate typing skills of at least 40 words-per-minute or possess proof of having taken the required skills test (i.e., New Jersey Qeprtrnent of Personnel typing proficiency certificate).
License Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is essential to perform the essential duties of the position.
Authorization United States citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US

For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary or the minimum salary of the bandllevel, whichever is greater. No increase may exceed the maximum of the
range for that level within the band. For newly hired employees, the hiring rate will be at the minimum of the salary range.

The New Jersey Judiciary consists of: the Supreme court, the Superior Court including the Appellate Division and the Trial Courts of the 15 vicinages in New Jersey, the Tax Court and the Municipal Court system. The Administrative Office of the courts provides technical assistance, operational support, training, research and development, budget and personnel coordination, and development and operation of information systems for the Courts of New Jersey.
