Social Insurance Specialist ( Bilingual Claims Representative)

The Trenton, New Jersey Social Security Office is seeking resumes in anticipation of jobs to be filled in 2008.

The Social Security Administration is an agency of the federal government and  responsible for administering the Social Security retirement, survivors, disability and supplemental income programs. Social Security’s Bilingual Claims Representatives work directly with the public to determine claimant entitlement for benefits under Social Security programs.  They enable the Social Security Administration to offer services in both English and Spanish. 

Claims Representatives are adjudicators.  They need skills to independently analyze situations and to interpret complex policy and procedural references to act on Social Security claims issues. 

Claims Representatives
• determine initial and ongoing claimant eligibility for Social Security benefits
• analyze evidence and allegations relevant to claims decisions
• conduct interviews with claimants, employers, and others to develop evidentiary material resolve discrepancies regarding work and earnings issues, age and relationship issues, etc.
• assist claimants in preparing medical and work history reports to support disability claims process claims utilizing SSA’s automated claims processing systems software.

The Bilingual Claims Representative is a full-time, permanent, entry-level position.  They participate in a structured training program.  Normally, the starting salary for a Bilingual Claims Representative in Trenton ranges from $33,187 to $41,110.   With successful performance, the salary will advance to $60,840 over 2 - 3 years.

Bilingual Claims Representatives are eligible to participate in a retirement program, thrift savings plan, a health benefits plan for individuals or families, and a life insurance program.  There are 10 paid federal holidays per year and new employees earn 13 vacation days and 13 sick days per year with no sick leave carryover limit.

Candidates qualify for the Claims Representative position through a 4-year college degree, or 3 years of work experience, or a combination of experience and education. 

Candidates must be US Citizens and be fluent in both English and Spanish.
