One Student's View of Triple Life
Hello! My name is Kimberly Genus and I am going to be a senior here at Westminster. My Freshmen year I was placed in a triple. I was immediately nervous, especially being as one of the girls had the same name as me. Scenarios kept running through my head of how scary it would be to be living with two strangers. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong. My situation worked out wonderfully, and my two former roommates are now two of my housemates, and my two best friends.
Leading up to moving day, we had all spoken on the phone. This helped so much! I actually spent two hours on the phone the first time with one of my roommates. This really helped us feel like we already knew each other when we moved in, making the transition away from home a lot easier. In the weeks leading up to orientation we had called each other several times to divide up what we would need for the room, discussing who would bring a phone, lamps, TV, etc.
Moving in was slightly frustrating, simply because all of our parents were attempting to help us unpack. Things really got worked out was later that evening when the three of us helped each other get settled.
Overall, being in a triple was actually a wonderful thing. I found it comforting to know that I never had to be alone. We helped each other out, took the time to get to know one another, and worked through any problems. We were very open and honest with each other from the start.
