COMMUTER HOUSING GRANT

Where can I get an application?

We are pleased to announce a new grant for rising junior and senior commuters who wish to live on campus during the 2009-2010 academic year.  Commuter Housing Grants, valued at $1,000 per semester for a total of $2,000 for the academic year, will be offered to a limited number of rising junior and senior commuters applying for standard housing, on a first-come, first-served basis, who demonstrate need and complete an application.  Completed applications will be considered in the order in which they are received in the Residence Life Office.

Completed applications can be emailed to reslife@rider.edu, faxed to 609-896-2088 to the attention of Residence Life, or mailed to Rider University, Residence Life, 2083 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville NJ 08648. 


ONLY THOSE STUDENTS WHO PAY THE $200 ROOM DEPOSIT BY MARCH 1 AND SUBMIT THEIR HOUSING AGREEMENT AT ROOM SELECTION/LOTTERY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR HOUSING FOR FALL 2009.

   ROOM SELECTION SCHEDULE
 March 1: $200 room deposit must be received by the
Cashier’s Office.  Students who miss this deadline will still be housed but may have limited residence hall choices.
 March 6: Premium lottery applications due
Small/single and double/single applications due
 March 14-21:

 March 22-25: On Sunday, March 22, from 2:00-11:00pm,
Residence Hall students must report to their hall
office to pick up their housing agreements and lottery numbers.  Greek students will be issued their housing agreements and lottery numbers at Greek Room
Selection on March 25. 
 March 23: Commuter students report to the Residence Life
Office in the BLC during normal office hours to pick up their housing application and lottery number.
 March 24: Premium Room Selection, 10:00pm, Cavalla Room. 
 March 25: Greek Room Selection, 10:00pm, BLC Theater
 March 29: Standard Room Selection, 1:00-4:15pm,
Cavalla Room

 

 Your Rider email is the only way you will get updates on your status in Room Selection.

 

1. Who may participate in Room Selection? 
All returning students, including commuters, who pay their housing deposit by March 1 and submit their housing agreement by March 29 will be able to reside on campus. 

2.     How can I pay my deposit?
To insure payment on time, we recommend you pay in person at the cashiers office (2nd floor BLC) or make a credit card payment online by logging into MyInfo and click on iPay, then select deposits.

3.    What do I need to do to participate in Room Selection?
# The $200 non-refundable housing deposit must be RECEIVED by the Cashier’s Office by March 1. 
# Read and sign your housing agreement (must be turned in at Premium Room Selection/Standard Room Selection/Greek Room Selection)
# Attend Premium Room Selection/Standard Room Selection/Greek Room Selection
# Course select for Fall 2009 by April 3 to hold your room assignment.

4. What if I do not pay the housing deposit by March 1? 
Deposits and housing applications will still be accepted however you may have limited residence hall choices.

5.  How am I assigned a lottery number? 
A random number will be given to each student after they pay their deposit.  Students will be grouped by their start term.  Higher numbers will be called to room select first.
# Start terms 06/FA & 07/SP and earlier– numbers between 2500 and 2999
# Start terms 07/FA and 08/SP – numbers between 1300 and 1999
# Start terms 08/FA and 09/SP – numbers between 0000 and 0999
Alert Residence Life if you are in the start terms mentioned above but
do not receive a lottery number by March 22.

6.    What are the start term groups? 
Rising second year students have start terms 08/FA and 09/SP
Rising third year students have start terms 07/FA and 08/SP
Rising fourth year students have start terms 06/FA and 07/SP
Rising fifth year students have start terms 06/SP and earlier.

7.    When will I get my lottery number? 
On Sunday, March 22, from 2:00-11:00pm, Residence Hall students (including Greek new members) must report to their hall office to pick up their housing agreements and lottery numbers.  On Monday, March 23, during normal office hours, (8:30am-5:00pm) commuter students must report to Residence Life in the BLC to pick up their housing agreement and lottery number.  Returning Greek students will be issued their housing agreements and lottery numbers at Greek Room Selection on March 25.  If your housing agreement and lottery number are not available when you go to get it, contact Residence Life immediately at 609-896-5057.

8.    Can lottery numbers be sold or traded with another resident? 
No.  Each number is specific to each student.

9.   What do I have to bring to Room Selection?
# Your housing application
# Your Rider photo ID

10.  Are double singles available next Fall? 
Yes.  Applications are available now .  All double/single assignments will be in Poyda.

11.  How do I apply for a single room?
Applications for small singles and double/singles are available in the BLC 115 and the Residence Life Area Office between Olson and Switlik.  Application deadline is March 6.  Double/Single approvals will be made based on lottery number.

12.  I missed the deadline but still wish to apply for a double/single.
Applications will be accepted through the end of Spring semester.  We will contact you during the summer if we are able to approve additional double/singles.

13.    Can three students pick a triple room?
Yes.  Some rooms have been identified as standard triples and may be selected by three students.  There will be no room rebates issued to students who triple voluntarily.

14.  What if I cannot attend standard room selection? 
You may submit your housing application to Residence Life prior to March 29, or designate another student to participate for you at your designated time, they must have your application.  Students who pay a housing deposit but do not submit their housing application by March 29 will still be housed but may have limited residence hall choices.

15.  Do I have to have a roommate to select a room? 
No.  If your number is called you will be permitted to select a room.  Residence Life will match you with the next single student whose number is called.

16.  What if I want to request an air conditioner? 
Air conditioners are not permitted in student rooms unless approved by the A/C review committee.  If you have been approved for a personal air conditioner in the past you will be required to room select in those buildings with air conditioning.  Any exceptions will be considered for medical conditions only.  All new requests must be submitted via the Rider specific medical form by March 6.  See www.rider.edu/housing to print this form for your physician.

17.  Is the deposit refundable? 
Once you have been offered a room assignment, the deposit is not refundable.  Students may request a refund before they are offered a standard room assignment.  

18.  Can I select a roommate who is in the Junior Year Abroad
program? 
Yes, provided he or she has paid the $200 room deposit and submitted their housing agreement to Residence Life.

19.  May I select a roommate with a different start term? 
Yes, the individual with the higher lottery number will determine time slot to select.

20.  May I reserve the room I presently live in? 
No.  Every student must go through the process and choose from the rooms that are available at their time slot.

21.  What if I want to live with a specific new student? 
You may sign up for a room together only if the Residence Life Office has received the Housing Agreement of the new student.  To verify this, come to Residence Life by Friday, March 27.  We will give you an authorization note to submit at Room Selection.

22.  I joined a Greek organization this year, how do I get a room in the house? 
The Greek Room Selection process will be on March 25.  Visit www.rider.edu/greeklife and click on House Management for more information.

23.  How do I know when my standard room selection time slot is? 
1:00—1:30PM Lottery Numbers 2500-2999
1:30—1:45PM Break
1:45—2:30PM Lottery Numbers 1300-1999
2:30—2:45PM Break
2:45—3:15PM Lottery Numbers 0556-0999
3:15—3:30PM Break
3:30—4:15PM Lottery Number 0000-0555

24.What are the premium spaces?
Apartments and suites in existing halls and in the new residence and the West Village.

25.   How do I apply for Premium Room Selection? 
Students who are interested in living in an apartment or suite must complete a group application.  Applications are available in the BLC 115 and the Residence Life Area Office between Olson and Switlik.  Applications are due Friday, March 6.  Applications are reviewed by Residence Life for verification of room deposit, disciplinary history and completion of course selection for next fall.  Students will be notified of their Premium Room Selection status on Sunday, March 22. 

26.When does the Lottery occur/Premium Room Selection?
The Lottery will occur on Tuesday, March 24 at 10:00pm in the Cavalla Room in the BLC.  Room types will be called in the following order:

• Four person apartments and 4 person suites in the West Village and the New Building, and four person Pod Suites in Hill and Ziegler
• Three person suites in Kroner, Olson and the West Village
• Two person apartments, 2 person suites and 2 person premium doubles
• Six person suites in Lincoln


The lottery numbers of each applicant will be added together to get the total of each group application.  Groups will be called to select a suite or apartment based on the total of the group’s lottery points.

27.Are any of the suites or apartments co-ed?  No

28.  Will moving off campus impact my financial aid?
You must notify the Office of Student Financial Services whenever your housing status changes.  Students who reside off campus, but not at home, are also required to provide a signed copy of their lease for review by a financial aid counselor. 


Students are expected to conduct themselves with integrity and respect at all times during the Room Selection Process.  Manipulation of the Room Selection Process results in fewer housing options for all students and a more stressful experience overall.  Students are invited to report any manipulation of the system to the Residence Life Office.
