Undergraduate Commencement Speaker

Selection Process

Qualifications

  • You must be graduating May 2008
  • You must be a student in “good academic and social standing”
  • You must be obtaining an undergraduate degree. This does not include CCS.

*Candidates should be involved in campus and community affairs and should possess solid public speaking skills.
 

Mandatory Candidate Information Sessions

  • All applicants are required to attend one commencement Speaker Information Session.
       Session 1 – February 20, 2008 - 5:00 pm, Student Leadership Suite
       Session 2 – February 21, 2008 - 5:00 pm, Student Leadership Suite
  • Applications will be distributed at the Information Session. Applications are due by March 7, 2008 in the Office of Campus Life by 5:00 pm.
     

Selection Process

  • Applications will be reviewed on March 10, 2008. Qualified candidates will be notified to set up an interview time on March 11, 2008.
  • There will be a finalist meeting for candidates seeking interview strategies and guidance on March 12, 2008 - 5:00 pm in the Leadership Suite.
  • Interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty, staff and students from March 25 - March 28
     

Final Decisions

  • Decisions will be made by April 2, 2008

Application Process

  1. Please submit a typed resume which includes your GPA, involvement in campus organizations, community organizations, employment, honors, awards and prizes.
  2. Please submit a type written answer to one of the following questions:
    • What is the purpose of a commencement speech and what should be included in a commencement address?
      - or -
    • How has Rider University impacted your life?
  3. Applications are due March 7, 2008 by 5:00 pm to the Office of Campus Life Administrative Assistant.
