Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK)

Mission
The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) is a charitable, non-profit organization serving hungry people in the Trenton area by providing meals and other services to encourage self-sufficiency and improve quality of life and by informing the wider community of the needs of the hungry and advocating for resources to meet theses needs.

How do they survive?
Over 90% of TASK’s income consists of charitable donations from the surrounding community through individual donations, matching gift programs and TASK Force Against Hunger.  TASK also relies on donations of food, school supplies, clothes, toys, books, and just about anything else you have to give.

Facts:
TASK was founded in the early 1980’s by a group of individuals from local churches and service organizations.  It was first held in the basement of local churches and rented space until enough money was raised to build their current facility ($600,000).  A full day of TASK activities including two meals costs $3,000.  The soup kitchen serves about 3,000 meals a week.

Catholic Campus Ministries (CCM) and TASK
Catholic Campus Ministries takes a group of volunteers to the soup kitchen once a month to help in execution of meals for the day.

Bonner and TASK
Bonner has members that will use the soup kitchen as their site.  With the soup kitchen as ones site a Bonner will spend about 10 hours a week at the soup kitchen tutoring, serving food, or just helping out depending on when they are volunteering. 

The soup kitchen also has off-site activities that Bonner students participate in, such as T-Shirt sale and 50-50 raffle at a Trenton Thunder basebal game

What would I do?

• Help by tutoring students and aiding them on their way to obtaining their GED.
• Help prepare and execute meals throughout the day.
• Sometimes even little tasks such as copying, stocking, or filing to keep things running smoothly.

Hours of Operation
Tutoring:
Mondays – Friday, 9:00 am to 11:00 am
Monday – Thursday, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Monday – Wednesday, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Meals:
Monday – Friday, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
Monday – Thursday, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
