NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY--The Broncs began the 2007 spring tennis season with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss at Niagara Saturday night. “The kids hit the ball well,” said head coach Ed Torres. “This was a good tune-up for the spring season.”

For the Rider men, freshman Luke Sproviero (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) won seven games at sixth singles with freshman Marc Ashed and sophomore Will Height (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) teaming up to win four points at second doubles.

“Luke played well,” Torres said.

On the women’s side, senior Devin Crawbuck (Jacobstown, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) lost a hard fought match 7-6 (10-8), 6-2 at number two singles.

“Niagara is a good team who has already played seven on eight matches this spring,” said Torres.

“For our first match of the spring we looked decent enough,” Torres said.

The men’s team travels to Fordham on March 27 before both teams compete at Marist in a MAAC match on March 30.
