ORLANDO, FLA.—The Broncs dropped two games on Wednesday at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida.  “The first game was really sloppy,” said head coach Tricia Carroll.  “The second game, the score was tied and they hit a home run on a pitch that I’m still not sure how she hit it but she did.  We’re just not pushing runs across when we have the opportunity.”

In the first game against FDU, Rider (2-9) fell 12-4 in five-innings.  For the Broncs, sophomore Katy Mills (Seattle, Wash./Mount Rainier) had two hits, including a three-run triple with senior Ashley Boulden (Brooklawn, N.J./Gloucester) adding two singles.

In the second game, down 4-1, Rider rallied to take a 5-4 lead, scoring four times in the fourth on a two-run Colonial throwing error, a passed ball and an RBI single from junior Jessica Holland (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham).  Holland had two singles in the game with freshman Candice Harris (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) adding a double.

“We’re getting runners on base and getting them in scoring position,” said Carroll.  “Then we are like ok, we’re done and we need to find a way to finish and get the runs across.  It’s a little frustrating but overall I think that the confidence of the team is growing as we get more games together.  Things are shaking out and I’m starting to see where players will play this season and that’s the key in getting these games in.”

With the score tied at five in the fifth inning, the Colonials hit a two-out solo home run for the final score.  Sophomore Lauren Brunner (Chino, Calif./Chino) picked up the loss in relief for the Broncs.  Rider had defeated George Washington 6-1 earlier in the week.

The Broncs are off on Thursday and face Columbia and Butler Friday in Florida.

“We’re still trying to see how all of the pieces that we have are going to fit together,” Carroll said.
