Rider’s Match-Ups at Nationals Announced
LAWRENCEVILLE-The pairings for the 2007 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships have been announced.
Competition begins Thursday morning in the Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan for six Rider wrestlers, sophomore 174 Doug Umbehauer (Shamong, N.J./Lenape), junior 141 Don Fisch (Williamstown, N.J./Delsea), sophomore 149 Mike Kessler (Randallstown, Md./Owings Mills), freshman 184 Mike Miller (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine), senior 157 Nate Galloway (State College, Pa.) and junior 197 T. J. Morrison (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff).
Umbehauer, currently ranked 12th in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News, received a first round bye and will begin the tournament against the ninth seed, Matthew Palmer of Columbia.
Fisch, making his third trip to Nationals, will face the fifth seed, Dominick Moyer of Nebraska.
Kessler, making his second trip to Nationals, will face the fourth seed, Jordan Leen of Cornell in the first round.
Miller will face the tenth seed in the first round, Louis Caputo of Harvard.
Galloway, making his fourth trip to Nationals but his first in a Rider uniform, received a first round bye and will face Jacob Murphy of Purdue.
Morrison, making his third trip to Nationals, received a first round bye and will face the fifth seed, Jerry Rinaldi of Cornell.
Umbehauer won his weight class at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships and was a Freshman All-American last season.
Fisch finished runner-up at the CAAs after red-shirting last season. Fisch came within one win of All-America honors at the 2005 Nationals, winning three of five bouts.
Kessler and Miller were CAA runners-up this year.
Galloway, a mid-season transfer from Penn State, is currently ranked 18th in the nation by InterMat. Last year Galloway won two bouts at Nationals.
Morrison placed third at the CAAs.
