2006-07 Season Highlights

The 2006-07 Rider University basketball season had many highlights

  • Rider won 16 games in 2006-07, twice as many as the previous season.

  • Junior Jason Thompson All-Met First Team.

  • Junior Jason Thompson was named to the CollegeInsider.com 2007 Defensive All-American team.

  • Junior Jason Thompson was named to the CollegeInsider.com 2007 Mid-Major All-American team.

  • Jason Thompson was one of just three Division I players to average over 20 points and 10 rebounds for the season, the other two being Kevin Durant of Texas and Nick Fazekas of Nevada.

  • Jason Thompson compiled 17 ‘double-doubles’ this season and now has 30 ‘double-doubles’ in three seasons.

  • Jason Thompson grabbed 20 rebounds in a victory over Manhattan, tying the Rider record for caroms in a game. Four Broncs have collected 20 rebounds in a game, the last time coming during the 1976-77 season.

  • Jason Thompson enters his senior year with 1,346 career points, 11th highest ever at Rider, and 759 rebounds, sixth highest ever at Rider.

  • Rider was one of five MAAC teams to have a winning overall record, and the Broncs were the only New Jersey Division I team to be above .500, ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson (14-16), Seton Hall (13-16), Monmouth (12-18), Princeton (11-17), Rutgers (10-19), Saint Peter’s (5-15) and NJIT (5-24).

  • On January 12 Rider trailed Fairleigh Dickinson by 21 points in the second half and came back to win the game on the road.

  • In the MAAC, Rider was second in free throw shooting, second in three-point field goal percentage, third in blocked shots, third in assists, fourth in field goal percentage and fourth in three-point field goals made.

  • In the nation, Rider was 83rd in free throw percentage, 90th in both three-pointers made and three-point field goal percentage and 94th in blocked shots.

  • Junior Jason Thompson was named first team All-MAAC, second team All-District 3, and was the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.  In the MAAC Thompson was first in rebounding and blocked shots, third in scoring, eighth in field goal percentage and 15th in free throw percentage.

  • Nationally, Jason Thompson ranked 10th in rebounding, 24th in scoring, 34th in blocks and 76th in field goal percentage.

  • Senior Terrance Mouton played in his 119th career game in the quarter-finals of the MAAC tournament, breaking the Rider record of 118 games played set in 1984 and tied in 1996. Mouton graduates with 1,131 points, 21st highest ever at Rider.

  • Sophomore Harris Mansell led the MAAC in three-point field goal percentage at .530, the next closest was at .429.

  • Rider won seven games on the road this season. The last time Rider won eight road games in a season was 1993-94.

  • Junior Joel Green made two foul shots with 1.9 seconds left to defeat Fairfield 64-63 on the road. Green was named to the MAAC All-Academic team.

  • Kevin Hickman made the 2004-05 team as a walk-on and was named co-captain of the 2006-07 squad. Hickman earned MAAC All-Academic team honors this season.

  • Rider was 3-0 against the Colonial Athletic Association and 2-0 against the America East this year.

  • Junior Kam Warner scored a career-high 24 points off the bench to lead Rider to a MAAC win at Canisius. His previous career high was 13 points.

  • In April of 2006 Tommy Dempsey was named the Head Coach of the Rider Broncs, after serving the 2005-06 season as the Interim Head Coach.

  • The third youngest coach (32) in Division I, Tommy Dempsey collected his 100th career victory on November 27 when Rider beat Drexel 89-81.
