Burke, Thompson Rider Athletes of Month

LAWRENCEVILLE—Amanda Burke of the swimming & diving team, and Jason Thompson of the basketball team, were named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for February.

Burke, a sophomore from Churchville, PA (William Tennent), was named the Diver of the Meet at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, leading Rider to a third place finish.  Burke won the three-meter dive at the ECAC Championships and placed second in the 1-meter dive. Burke also won the 1-meter dive at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships and placed fourth in the 3-meter.

Thompson, a junior from Mt. Laurel (Lenape), averaged 20.6 points and 9.9 rebounds in eight games in February while compiling 13 blocks and 15 assists.

Thompson was a first team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection, was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, and also earned second team All-District 3 honors by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Thompson ended the season averaging 20.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Burke set a new MAAC Championship record in the 1-meter dive and at the ECAC Championships broke both the Rider 1-meter and Rider 3-meter diving records.
