Sixth Bronc Heading to Nationals

LAWRENCEVILLE—T. J. Morrison, a junior on the Rider University wrestling team, is heading to Auburn Hills, Michigan for the NCAA National Wrestling Championships, it was announced today.

Morrison (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff) becomes the sixth Bronc to qualify for Nationals this season.

Currently ranked 15th in the nation at 197 pounds, Morrison was the second seed at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships but was upset in the semi-finals and finished third. The CAA sends 23 wrestlers to Nationals, and Morrison was voted the first alternate.

Morrison replaces Alton Lucas of Hofstra, who placed fourth in the CAA Championships at 174 pounds.

This will be Morrison’s third trip to Nationals. Morrison won a bout at the 2005 Nationals, and heads to the Palace of Auburn Hills with a record of 31-9.

Morrison joins sophomore Doug Umbehauer (Shamong/Lenape), junior Don Fisch (Williamstown/Delsea), sophomore Mike Kessler (Randallstown, MD/Owings Mills), freshman Mike Miller (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and senior Nate Galloway (Sate College, PA) as national qualifiers.

At the CAAs Umbehauer won his 174 pound weight class, Fisch finished runner-up at 141, Kessler finished runner-up at 149, Miller placed runner-up at 184 and Galloway finished third at 157.

The NCAAs are held March 15-17.
