Rider Men’s Indoor Track & Field
at 86th IC4A’s / Hamilton All-East Honors

BOSTON, MA—Several members of the Rider men’s indoor track and field teams are competing at the 86th annual IC4A Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center this weekend.  “We competed well,” said head coach Rob Pasquariello.  “We got one All-East performance and had two others put themselves in strong position to attain All-East honors on Sunday.”

On Saturday for Rider, sophomore Desmond Hamilton (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) received All-East honors with a second place finish in the long jump (7.21m).

“Desmond hasn’t has a whole lot of opportunity to jump this year due to injury,” said Pasquariello.  “He won the conference a few weeks ago and we worked on some things since and that really paid off.  He had a big jump in a big time meet and his effort didn’t surprise us because we know what he can do.”

Hamilton’s effort was the highest IC4A finish for Rider since assistant coach Justin Lindsey got second in the hurdles during the 2001 outdoor season.

Senior David Payne (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) advanced to the semi-finals of the 55m with a fifth place finish (6.40) and was also fifth in the 200m (21.537) to qualify for the finals.

“David has been here before,” Pasquariello added.  “He is a senior and a leader on our team and he went out and did what he needed to do today.  Both Desmond, David and Randy [Nixon] have a good chance to get All-East honors on Sunday.”

The top eight finishers in the final events earn the coveted All-East recognition.

Junior Randy Nixon (Manorville, N.Y./West Hampton) qualified for the semi-finals in the 55 high hurdles with a time of 7.62, finishing 11th in the preliminaries.

“Randy got through his race and did what he needed to do to qualify for the semi-finals,” Pasquariello said.  “He is in a good position to get All-East for the first time on Sunday.”

Also for the Broncs, sophomore A.J. Parillo (South River, N.J./South River) was 33rd in the 400m (49.49).

The distance medley relay of junior Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury), freshman Paul Racioppi (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge), sophomore Matt Dahl (West Keansburg, N.J./Raritan) and junior Andre Fearon (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) was 15th with a Rider record time of 10:04.75.

Competition concludes on Sunday.
