Rider at New Balance Collegiate Invitational

NEW YORK, NY—The Broncs are competing in the seventh annual New Balance Invitational Friday and Saturday at the New York City Armory. “Overall, things went pretty well,” said Rider head coach Rob Pasquariello.  “We had two big highlights with the men’s DMR and the women’s shot put breaking records.”

Senior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne/Wayne Valley) placed eighth in the shot put with a Rider record toss of 48’6.25”. “That was a stacked field, with four of the top 10 throwers in the country here,” Pasquariello said. “The top mark today is the top throw in the country this year. Last year at this meet Jazmine was disappointed in how she threw both the shot and the weight. Today she went out and broke the team record with her very first toss, and qualified for the finals so she took the pressure off right away. That shows the growth she has had over the last year.”

The men’s distance medley relay team of junior Andre Fearon (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep), freshman Paul Racioppi (Old Bridge), junior Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) and junior Paul Matuszak (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) placed third in a Rider record time of 10:07.78. “That was a long-standing school record,” Pasquariello said.  “That was a fantastic time that qualified for the IC4As. We were really pleased with that.”

The old Rider record in the DMR of 10:07.84 stood since 1984.

Sophomore Kelly Kajunski (Glenmore, Pa./Downington East) placed fourth in the women’s high jump (1.68m), and senior Katie O’Connor (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) placed sixth in the high jump (1.68m). “They both broke 5’6” and really competed well,” Pasquariello said.

Junior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) placed 18th in the 5,000m (15:40.55).

The distance medley relay team of freshman Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, PA/St. Basil’s), senior Katie Chin (Jackson/Jackson Memorial), freshman Kelly Dissinger (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) and sophomore Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven) placed 13th (13:12.35).

Senior David Payne (Neptune) was 25th in the preliminaries of the 60m dash (6.94).

Competition continues Saturday. “Jazmine’s best event, the weight throw, is on Saturday, so we’re looking forward for her to do something special there too,” Pasquariello said.
