Rider at Great Dane Classic
Women: 5th of 18 - Men: 8th of 22
NEW YORK, NY—The Broncs competed at the Great Dane Classic Friday night, hosted by the University at Albany at the 168th Street Armory. “This was another step up in competition from last week, and the teams really responded,” said Rider head coach Rob Pasquariello.
For the Rider women, sophomore Kelly Kajunski (Glenmore, Pa./Downington East) won the high jump with an ECAC qualifying height of 5’7” that ties her own Rider record.
For the Rider men, junior Randy Nixon (Manorville, NY/West Hampton) won the 55m hurdles with a personal best time of 7.58 that qualified for the IC4A Championships.
For the Rider women, senior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne/Wayne Valley) placed second in the shot put (47’1.75”) and third in the weight throw (55’3.5”), qualifying for the ECAC Championships in both.
Also for the Rider men, junior Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) qualified for the IC4As in the 1,000m with a time of 2:28.84. Senior David Payne (Neptune) ran 6.42 in the 55m dash to qualify for the IC4As and finished sixth. Junior Andre Fearon (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) placed third in the 800m (1:53.52) to qualify for the IC4As.
Sophomore Gary Morris (Clay, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) placed fifth in the 500m (1:07.33), sophomore AJ Parillo (South River) placed sixth in the 55m dash (6.48), junior Paul Matuszak (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) finished sixth in the mile (4:24.12), sophomore Tom Planer (Cranford) finished eighth in the high jump (1.96m), freshman Kevin Breen (Langhorne, PA/Archbishop Ryan) was tenth in the pole vault (4.20m) and junior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) placed 14th in the 5000m (16:02.87).
Senior Katie O’Connor (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) placed third in the high jump (1.65m), freshman Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, PA/St. Basil’s) placed fourth in the 5000m (18:53.90), sophomore Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven) placed sixth in the 3,000m (10:40.70), freshman Kelly Dissinger (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) placed eighth in the 800m (2:29.54), sophomore Andrea Campbell (Somers Point/Mainland Regional) placed eighth in the 5000m (19:45.83), senior Allyson Angelo (Brick/Red Bank Catholic) 11th in the pole vault (3.00m) and junior Rebecca Clatch (Drums, PA/Hazelton Area) was 12th in the pole vault (3.00m).
“The teams are getting more comfortable competing against big-time teams in a big-time atmosphere,” said Pasquariello.
Rider competes at the Boston Terrier Classic January 26-27.
