FAIRFAX, VA---The Broncs defeated Colonial Athletic Association rivals George Mason and James Madison on the first day of the two-day CAA Duals, hosted by Mason.  In the two matches Friday evening Rider won 14 of the 20 bouts. “We got banged up a little today, but we did fine,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  “But we won two matches, so that’s the good news.”

Against George Mason, junior T. J. Morrison (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff), ranked 13th in the nation, won by fall to give the Broncs a 27-11 lead.  “That kid pinned T. J. out in Vegas when T. J. made a mistake, so he was able to avenge that loss,” Taylor said. “He caught him in a cradle.”

Junior 141 Don Fisch (Williamstown/Delsea) won by a tech fall and sophomore Doug Umbehauer (Shamong/Lenape), ranked ninth in the nation, won by a major decision. “Doug picks up his lunch box, goes to work, and goes home,” Taylor said. “Just another day at work for him.”

“George Mason has some solid kids in their line up,” Taylor said.

“Donnie is wrestling well,” said Taylor.

Against JMU, Rider won all eight matches that it wrestled, forfeiting two bouts.

Sophomore Mike Kessler (Randallstown, MD/Owings Mills) picked up two wins on the day. “Mike was very steady today and wrestled very well. He’s on a good role right now.”

Senior Nathan Galloway (State College, PA) won his first two bouts as a Bronc. “It was good timing getting Galloway with the injuries we have in the middle weights,” said Taylor.

Rider takes on Old Dominion and Binghamton Saturday. Rider was upset by ODU at the Virginia Duals last week. “We’re going to have to wrestle well to beat them, they are for real,” Taylor said. “They just beat Drexel.”
