Rider’s Fenlator Honored by the MAAC
LAWRENCEVILLE—Rider senior Jazmine Fenlator of the women’s track and field team was honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as the Female Performer of the Week for all competition January 8-14. “Jazmine was the number one collegiate finisher in the shot put at Penn State,” said head coach Rob Pasquariello. “The only competitor that beat her was a former All-American.”
At the Penn State Relays on January 13, Fenlator (Wayne/Wayne Valley) placed second in the shot put with a Rider record toss of 47'11” and was third in the 20 pound weight throw (56'3”), qualifying for the ECAC Championships in both events.
“She [Jazmine] showed a lot of composure after fouling on her first two throws,” Pasquariello said. “She stayed focused and set a school record on her third throw.”
Fenlator was recently named Rider’s Female Athlete of the Month for December after breaking the Rider indoor records in both the weight throw (57’11.75”) and the shot put (47’8”) at the Princeton New Year Invitational.
“Track is such an individual kind of team sport,” Pasquariello added. “With that said, everybody does look to Jazmine to lead us with her performances and she usually does not disappoint. She has evolved and matured into a very good athlete and she still has the potential to do even better as we head into championships.”
As a junior, Fenlator was the Rider University Female Athlete of the Year and was an All-East performer in three different events; the 20 pound weight throw, the outdoor shot put and the discus, and qualified for the NCAA Regional in both the shot put and the discus. She set Rider records in five different events and was a member of the MAAC All-Academic team, and was named one of the top 25 performers in the 25-year history of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Fenlator was the MAAC Champion in the shot put, indoor and outdoor (MAAC record), and the MAAC Champion and record setter in the discus. She qualified for the ECAC Championships in four events, and was ranked fifth in the East in the discus, sixth in the East and 53rd in the nation in the outdoor shot put, and seventh in the East in the weight throw.
Fenlator was Rider’s first ECAC Champion, winning the discus in 2005, and is a four-time All-East performer. She enters this year with six MAAC gold medals, the most ever by a Rider female field performer.
Rider competes at the New York City Armory in the Albany Great Dane Classic January 19.
